I am a fish killer! *mourns*
The only news since I posted last is that all of my fish are dead except for the three pristella tetras (which seem to be quite hardy) and the siamese fighters/bettas (which were living in the highly alkaline water for a few months already anyway). That means I have lost a total of 13 fish out of sixteen new ones, and all nine babies *sniffles*
It was such a good sign too, that the fish were breeding. It meant they were happy. But no, then the pH of the tank has to sky-rocket so that it's not just blue (signifying the water to be alkaline) but navy blue and off the damn scale! Feh. Well, I bought a pH testing kit since then, and some powders called pH Up and pH Down so I can tweak the pH of the water. I've managed to neutralise it, after sending a little bit more acidic than neutral (but not direly so). However the water will probably try to creep back up to alkaline in the next few days, so I'll have to keep an eye on it and try to regulate it.
When it's been neutral for three days steady, I'm going to go back to the shop and get replacement fish. They've given me a credit note for more since they should have actually told me in advance that the tank needed to sit about a week before we added fish.
The official list of dead fish:
4 neon tetras
5 guppies
4 mollies
9 baby fish
1 angel fish
The official still-alive list:
3 siamese fighters/bettas
3 pristella tetras
What I want to add when all's well again list:
5 neon tetras
6 guppies
3 mollies
I don't want an angel fish at the moment now (any more). Especially since the last one died. I feel bad about the other fish, but ... they were in numbers so I don't feel like they were "rare" in my tank *rhe at self* I know - weird sentiment. But anyway! And I hope they have more baby fish again.
