Currently reading Medalon (because I just finished the Wolfblade trilogy but have just now realised that the last two books of the Demon Child trilogy are no longer in my possession - lent them out once, never gott hem back) and Playing Beatie Bow (mmm, I read that in primary school but it's good to read childhood stories sometimes - it's like the ultimate comfort food only not food ... well, it is - food for the mind though).

Also, meant to ask [info]dustkitty or [info]noirrosaleen about Jacqueline Carey. I just finished the first book officially about Imriel - are there others yet? Have I missed anything she's written in between the Phaedre and Imriel books whether or not they are written in the Terre d'Ange world? If so, were the in-between ones any good (I recall someone mentioning being less impressed with them than with the Phaedre books)? Or has she only written the Phaedre/Imriel books?

Also ... http://www.LibraryThing.com (I think is the link) ... has led to some people finding new and good authors to try. I'm going to sign up. And did anyone else read about David Eddings burning down his office? lol. Silly duffer.

Kushiel's Justice *just* came out about a month ago - remember me flipping out about the book-signing? Nothing in between, and after she finishes Imri's trilogy she *will* write another trilogy in that world, although she's going to wait a generation, I think she said.

The two books she wrote between the two trilogies were LotR written from the losing side. Knowing that going in makes things much easier. Need to give them another go now that I know that they're intended to be such.

Oh, and The Lies of Locke Lamora is *excellent* - new in paperback, pick it up. I'm loving it.

Yes. That's what I expanded it as. Is that so? How interesting.

I lurrve Library Thing. Best website ever. Seriously! And the more of your books you catalogue, the more useful it gets simply because you find lots of other members that love the same books as you and get to trawl THEIR libraries and locate new authors as a result. FANTASTIC. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up! :)

Meanwhile, blech to people who borrow and do not return. That is awful!

And I think you might have inspired me to re-read PLAYING BEATTIE BOW. I loved that book as a kid and haven't re-read it in years... My other fave Ruth Park was MY SISTER SIF. Which I think is also on my shelf somewhere... Thanks, gkitty! I'm all inspired now :D

altenatives

Just a heads up - Librarything only lets you add 200 books, after which it starts charging you. It's a lot but still, there are some other alternatives, namely shelfari. It's free because amazon is paying the bills (and hoping that they'll cash it in on book sales).

Of course I haven't used either myself so can't really tell you which one is better.

Re: altenatives
Oh dear! I know a number of my friends who have probably been put onto LibraryThing.com will have more than two hundred books to catalogue. I might check out Shelfari. Thanks for that input =)

I haven't got hold of the Imriel book yet. *pout*

Of the in-between non-Kushiel story, I've only read the first book, but I adore it. It is not LotR retold, though one could draw many parallels between it and Silmarillion. It's a beautiful tragedy, though it's written in quite formal language, which turns a lot of people off. Then again, the mere fact that it's a tragedy probably turns a lot of people off, too. It's also a book designed to make the reader think, which I enjoy, but a lot of people do not when reading fiction. So, I'd recommend it, but Risa wouldn't, so you'll have to choose for yourself. The first book is called Banewreaker.

Is GOOD!

Oh, for some reason I had some idea you hadn't been so impressed. Still, I will hunt down and see if I can read it and form my own impression then, I guess lol =)

Thanks for the thoughtful answer! *snugs*
